RSP stages demonstration in Pokhara over Rabi’s arrest

KATHMANDU: Cadres and supporters of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) launched a protest in Pokhara against the arrest of their Chairman, Rabi Lamichhane.

Supporters gathered in front of the main gate of the District Police Office Kaski on Saturday.

After being taken to Pokhara last night, Chairman Lamichhane is currently in custody at the District Police Office Kaski.

The RSP claims that Lamichhane, a former home minister, was arrested out of political revenge.

According to the RSP, further demonstrations against political retaliation are planned in Chipledhunga, Pokhara, and at Maitighar in Kathmandu.

Lamichhane was apprehended on Saturday evening at the RSP’s central office in Kathmandu and transported to Pokhara that same night.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police stated that he was arrested for his involvement in an investigation related to fraud and organized crime linked to the Suryadarshan Savings and Loan Cooperative Society Limited in Pokhara.

As today is a public holiday, the police have said that Lamichhane will be presented in court tomorrow.
