UK supports 13 Nepali students with fully-funded Master’s degrees

KATHMANDU: The UK has provided support to 13 Nepalis who will pursue fully-funded master’s degrees at UK universities this year.

These exceptional individuals are recipients of the prestigious Chevening Scholarship, as announced by the British Embassy in Kathmandu.

The scholars will study a diverse range of subjects, including International Human Rights Law, Aviation Digital Technology, Global Health Policy, and Children, Youth & International Development.

British Ambassador to Nepal, Rob Fenn, remarked, “Chevening Scholars represent some of Nepal’s finest, and the UK is proud to support them in building important links as ambassadors between our countries. It is also a delight to see so many of our alumni return to Nepal, driving change with the skills, knowledge, and friendships they gained during their time at British universities.”

The Chevening program began in Nepal in 1983, with its first scholars being Gyanendra Dhar Pradhananga (University of Manchester) and Ram Krishna Prasai (University of Reading).

In total, 262 Nepalis, including this year’s recipients, have received this prestigious scholarship.

Alumni have made significant contributions across various sectors, including politics, business, academia, and diplomacy, with one serving as the new Nepal Ambassador-designate to the UK.

Chevening Scholarships empower outstanding emerging leaders from around the globe to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK, with the stipulation that scholars return to their home country after their studies.

To date, over 50,000 individuals from around the world have studied in the UK through this scholarship, named after the official residence of the British Foreign Secretary.
