KATHMANDU: Urban Development Minister, Prakash Man Singh, has said there is no truth in the propaganda that citizens’ rights are being usurped through constitutional amendment.

Addressing a program organized here today, DPM Singh argued that the coalition government formed by the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML will not hijack civic rights as both are the parties that have fought for the people’s rights.

“There is this false publicity going on that the government will curtail most of the provisions in the constitution through its amendment. Congress and the UML are parties that have fought for the protection of people’s rights. There is no truth in the propaganda that these parties which have formed a coalition government will curtail these rights,” he said.

Minister Singh insisted that the Congress joined hands with the UML to bring political stability in the country.

“The two large parties have come together as the government kept on changing in seven/sight months and as there was uncertainty whether the government would last or not, which impaired the government of the day,” he said, adding that positive initiatives are on to bring the economy on track after the formation of this government.

He also asserted that the government will demonstrate its performance in driving the economy ahead.
