KATHMANDU: The CPN-Maoist Center has issued a circular urging its leaders and cadres to be prepared for street protests against the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML coalition government.

This directive follows a recent meeting of the party’s Standing Committee, led by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and General Secretary Dev Gurung.

The circular expresses deep concern over an agreement reachedbetween the NC and UML, which the party views as detrimental to national interests.

The Maoist Center has argued that the agreement jeopardizes the defense of national independence, the federal democratic republic, good governance, social justice, and resource management.

The document has claimed that the Nepali Congress and UML parties aim to undermine the campaign against corruption and protect corrupt practices.

It has also warned that proposed constitutional amendments could reverse the gains made since the decade-long “people’s war” and the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA), potentially leading the country back to the conditions of 1990.

From a nationalist perspective, the circular accuses the current government of fostering instability and chaos, weakening the state, and compromising Nepal’s national identity.

It has asserted that foreign powers might exploit this instability to further their own interests at Nepal’s expense.

The circular has criticized the seven-point agreement between the Nepali Congress and UML as a regressive step and warns that if the government continues on this path of regression, anti-nationalism, and corruption, street protests may become necessary.
