KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has asserted that the new government was formed to address the country’s problems and implement necessary changes.
In a discussion with office-bearers of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) today, Prime Minister Oli clarified that he did not assume the role of Prime Minister merely for the position, as he had already served in that capacity before.
He stated, “The main objective of the incumbent government is to resolve the existing problems and strengthen the country’s economy. I became Prime Minister this time with the determination to resolve issues and make significant changes in the country, not just for the post. Therefore, the private sector should collaborate with the government, believing in its mission.”
Prime Minister Oli emphasized that tax rates should not be altered at the behest of individual interests and urged the private sector to oppose detrimental policies.
He stressed the need for a flexible monetary policy to create a dynamic economy.
On the occasion, CNI President Rajesh Kumar Agrawal urged the government to prioritize reviving the economy, which has slowed down over the past three years.
He noted that while the external sector is encouraging, the domestic economy remains troubled, with the productive and construction sectors being particularly affected.
He emphasized the need to boost the morale of the private sector through supportive policies.
Former CNI presidents Bishnu Kumar Agrawal, Satish Kumar More, and Haribhakta Sharma, along with vice-presidents Nirvana Chaudhary, Birendra Raj Pandey, Raj Bahadur Shah, Amit More, and Bhim Ghimire, and governing council members Shiva Ratan Sharada, Yogeshwar Lal Shrestha, and Bal Krishna Shrestha, shared their insights on the current economic situation and provided suggestions to the Prime Minister on ways to improve it.
