KHOTANG: Khotang district has achieved a record production of 168 metric tonnes of litchi this year, up from last year’s 153 metric tonnes, as confirmed by the District Agriculture Knowledge Centre.
Local farmers have earned millions of rupees by cultivating litchi.
Farmers in Khotang have commercially grown litchi on 31 hectares of land.
This year, Rawabesi Rural Municipality led the district with a production of 74 metric tonnes, the highest among Khotang’s 10 local levels.
Sanjay Kumar Pandit, an officer at the Centre, reported that Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi produced two metric tonnes, while Halesi Tuwachung yielded 20.5 metric tonnes.
Jantedhunga Rural Municipality and Diprung Chuichumma also reported substantial litchi production this year.
Litchi from Khotang is sold in local Haat bazaars and other cities, including Kathmandu.
