KATHMANDU: Colonel Direndra Kumar Malla has been dismissed by a military court due to an age-related controversy.

The summary military general court announced the decision on Tuesday, leading to Malla’s dismissal.

Nepali Army spokesperson and Brigadier General Gaurav Kumar KC confirmed the court’s decision.

According to KC, the court ruled to dismiss Malla from service starting Tuesday, but he will not be deemed ineligible for future government service.

During the investigation, discrepancies were found in Malla’s educational certificates, showing different birth-date than in his citizenship.

Following a complaint, the military headquarters formed a ‘Court of Inquiry.’

Malla, who was stationed at the Nepali mission to the United Nations in New York, was recalled to Nepal and taken into custody for the investigation.

A military official deployed at the United Nations less than five months before, Malla was detained upon his return to Nepal to facilitate the investigation.
