Over 400,000 tourists explore Mustang by road last year

JOMSOM: From April 14, 2023, to April 12, 2024, over 400,000 tourists traveled to Mustang by road, as per data from the Ghasa police station, situated at the transit point to Myagdi-Mustang.

The statistics reveal that 414,280 domestic and foreign tourists explored Mustang during this period.

Deputy Superintendent Bhojraj Pandey, Chief of the District Police Office Mustang, stated that the number of domestic visitors entering Mustang via road amounted to 335,466, including 220,724 males and 114,742 females.

Additionally, DSP Pandey mentioned that 78,814 foreigners visited Mustang during this timeframe. Among them, 72,756 were from SAARC countries, while 6,058 were from non-SAARC member states.

He further detailed that 38,821 males and 33,935 females from SAARC countries visited Mustang, along with 3,648 males and 2,410 females from countries outside the SAARC region.

Moreover, data indicates that 11,484 tourists arrived in Mustang via air, with 1,679 being domestic tourists (1,134 males and 545 females), 8,055 from SAARC countries (3,767 males and 4,288 females), and 1,750 visitors from non-SAARC member countries (886 males and 864 females).

Known as the “district beyond the Himalayas,” Mustang remains a prime tourism destination renowned for its desert-like landscape.

Its attractions include bare mountains, Himalayan climate, culture, lakes, monasteries, Muktinath temple, and caves.

Local tourism entrepreneurs note a gradual increase in tourist inflow to religious and tourist sites in Mustang, including Muktinath, Jomsom, Kagbeni, Lomanthang, Marpha, Thini, and Dhumba Lake, since last year.
