Ruling coalition unveils Common Minimum Program
The Common Minimum Program (CMP) of the ruling five-party coalition was unveiled during an event held in Kathmandu on Tuesday. The CMP was made public at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, in the presence of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and the top leaders of the parties in the ruling alliance. The ruling coalition comprises CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Janata Samajbadi Party and CPN-Unified Socialist.
No evidence links Home Minister Lamichhane to cooperative fraud: PM Dahal
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has stated that there is no evidence linking Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane to the cooperative fraud case. In response to queries from Nepali Congress lawmakers, PM Dahal emphasized that he is closely monitoring the investigation and no evidence of Lamichhane’s involvement has surfaced thus far. Furthermore, PM Dahal asserted that if any evidence emerges proving Lamichhane’s guilt, the government will not hesitate to take appropriate action.
NC’s call for probe committee against Home Minister Lamichhane unnecessary: KP Oli
Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN-UML, KP Oli, has commented that the Nepali Congress’s (NC) demand to establish a parliamentary committee to investigate Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane is unnecessary. Speaking to journalists at the Parliament Building in New Baneshwor on Tuesday, the UML Chair remarked that forming a probe committee is neither feasible nor necessary.
NC urges formation of parliamentary committee to probe cooperative fraud allegations
Nepali Congress (NC), the principal opposition party, has called for the establishment of a parliamentary committee to investigate the cooperative fraud case. During Tuesday’s House of Representatives (HoR) session, Ramesh Lekhak, the party’s chief whip, asserted that evidence suggests Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s involvement, warranting thorough scrutiny by a parliamentary committee. Lekhak emphasized that failure to address the opposition’s demands would hold the government accountable for any disruptions to parliamentary proceedings.
DOMLI files cases against for for failure to verify sources of millions
The Department of Money Laundering Investigation (DOMLI) has filed cases against four individuals for failing to verify the source of millions of rupees, including US dollars. According to Department sources, Nareh Agrawal, Deepak Shah Thakuri, Manmohan Sah Kalwar, and Diwas Karki were brought before a special court on Tuesday. Agrawal allegedly opened a bank account in the name of Diwas Karki and engaged in currency transactions in violation of Clause 1 (b) of Schedule 1 of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2064.
NEPSE index drops by single digit on Tuesday
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has witnessed a decline in the general index on Tuesday, the third trading day of the week. The NEPSE index dropped by 6.24 points, settling at 2067.29 today. A total of 9,478,933 shares of 307 companies were traded, resulting in a turnover of Rs. 3,633,936,554. While the Financial group rose by 2.10 points, the Life Insurance group rose by 0.06 points, and the Microfinance group rose by 2.03 points, all other subgroup indices have declined.
Maoist Center leaders opine Vice Chair Mahara should resign
CPN-Maoist Center office bearers have suggested that Vice Chairman Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who is accused of gold smuggling, should voluntarily resign from the party. The Maoist Center held a meeting of its office bearers on Tuesday to address the situation concerning leader Mahara.
Lumbini Conclave “Global Peace for Prosperity” to kick off Thursday
A two-day international conclave on peace and prosperity is going to be held in Lumbini, beginning this Thursday. Organized jointly under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Honorary Consular Corps Nepal (HCCN), the conclave is entitled “Global Peace for Prosperity”. The event will be attended by 18 non-residential ambassadors to Nepal, senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), dozens of Honorary Consuls and Honorary Consul Generals to Nepal, officials of Lumbini Development Trust, Buddhist heritage and foreign affairs experts, among others.
NC warns parliament obstruction over probe committee absence
Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada has warned that his party would obstruct the parliamentary session unless a probe committee is formed against Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane. Speaking to reporters at the House of Representatives building premises in New Baneshwor on Tuesday, lawmaker Khatiwada expressed dissatisfaction with the Prime Minister’s response to questions regarding Home Minister Lamichhane.
Prachanda likely to serve full term as PM: KP Oli
Chairman of the ruling CPN-UML party, KP Oli, has stated that Chairman of the Maoist Center, Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, will most probably continue as Prime Minister for the full term. UML Chairman Oli made these remarks during a press conference organized by Press Chautari Kailali in Dhangadhi on Tuesday.
Nepali homes embrace digital age: 76% have smartphones
Recent findings from the National Statistics Office reveal that 76 percent of households in Nepal now own smartphones. Out of the 6.6 million families surveyed, a staggering 4.862 million possess smartphones across the nation. Additionally, data from Census 2078 indicates that 49.4 percent of households own televisions, while 15 percent have computers. Furthermore, the report highlights a notable rise in internet adoption, with 37.8 percent of Nepali families having internet access within their homes.
