KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has expressed his belief that democracy fosters national unity, along with social justice, equality, social harmony, and prosperity.

Giving a message of best wishes on the occasion of National Democracy Day, 2080 today, President Paudel viewed the federal democratic republic as the achievement of the seven-decade-long struggle waged by Nepalis.

On this occasion, he paid tribute to all known and unknown martyrs of various movements for the establishment of democracy in Nepal.

Paudel also extended best wishes to all Nepali sisters and brothers living in the country and abroad.

“We celebrate National Democracy Day today, Falgun-7, to commemorate the historic day on which we gained freedom from the autocratic Rana regime in 2007BS as a result of huge sacrifices,” Paudel reminded, adding that the day is a glorious and unforgettable moment in Nepal’s history.

The President mentioned in the message that the constitution we have has adopted the federal democratic republic aiming at the establishment of a socialism-oriented economy based on justice and equality.

He believed that democracy would inspire all to abide by democratic values and serve national interests.
