Security of depositors in cooperatives is my top priority: Rabi Lamichhane

CHITWAN: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chairman, Rabi Lamichhane, emphasized that the security of depositors in cooperatives is his top priority.

Speaking at a press conference held at Bharatpur Airport in Chitwan on Friday, Lamichhane acknowledged his focus on preventing the misappropriation of savings by cooperative management.

Lamichhane, also an elected Member of Parliament from Chitwan Constituency No. 2, stressed that the security of depositors in the cooperative is not only a political issue but also a responsibility as a public representative and a responsible individual.

He informed that the party has prepared a report addressing issues in cooperatives, including misappropriation, and submitted it to the Ministry.

The RSP chair claimed that his party had already prepared the report, citing solutions to cooperative victims before such issues surfaced in the media.

Lamichhane, along with his political role, expressed his commitment to resolving cooperative issues in a political context.

“It is the government’s responsibility to recover the savings of savers once the cooperatives receive approval from the government. The solution to this issue needs to be approached politically,” he added.

Previously, Lamichhane was involved with Galaxy 4K television in the responsibility of Managing Director. The television had a bulk investment of the cooperative’s savings.

The Galaxy 4K television promoter GB Rai, who had been in the lead roles of many cooperatives and is now charged with misappropriation, is currently absconding.

Responding to a journalist’s question about why GB Rai was not arrested, Lamichhane attributed it to the state’s protection.

“He couldn’t be arrested because he has some political power to protect himself. We are ready to support the government in arresting him,” Lamichhane said.

He clarified that he has not been associated with the organization for the last two and a half years. The RSP chairman also met with cooperative victims in Chitwan.
