Oli targets Maoists and RSP: ‘The current government won’t fall because of criticism’
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has asserted that the current government, formed through a coalition between CPN-UML and Nepali Congress, will not collapse simply because of criticism or opposition.
Addressing a programme organized on the occasion of the 37th Establishment Day of Society for the Liberation of Oppressed Castes, Nepal here on Wednesday, Oli dismissed speculations about the government’s instability.
PM Oli receives UAE Ambassador; invitation extended for World Governments Summit
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli received a courtesy call today from Abdullah Al Shamsi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Nepal, at the Prime Minister’s residence.
During the meeting, Ambassador Shamsi handed over an invitation letter from UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, inviting PM Oli to participate in the World Governments Summit, scheduled to be held in Dubai in the second week of February.
Discussions focused on strengthening mutual relations and exploring areas of shared interest.
Durga Prasai’s writ petitions dismissed, banks clear to recover loans
Two writ petitions filed by medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai were dismissed Tuesday, clearing the path for continued police custody and enabling banks to proceed with loan recovery from him.
Prasai was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on November 19 from his residence in Bhaktapur for making allegations that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had invested Rs 32 billion in a Cambodian telecommunications company.
He was charged under Section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act, 2006, with potential additional charges pending.
Unified Socialist reshuffles leaders’ responsibilities
Six months after its Central General Conference, the Unified Socialist has reassigned the roles of several party leaders through a major reshuffle.
The party’s standing committee meeting announced a 24-member central secretariat under the leadership of Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal.
Senior leader Jhalanath Khanal now heads the School Department, while Beduram Bhusal leads the Organization Department.
NEA earns Rs 9.11 billion profit as revenue reaches Rs 41.8 billion
Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has recorded a profit of more than Rs 9.11 billion during the first three months of the current fiscal year.
From Shrawan to mid-Asoj, NEA’s total revenue, including interest and other income, reached Rs 41.80 billion, while its total expenses amounted to Rs 32.69 billion.
During this period, NEA spent Rs 32.69 billion on operational costs and maintenance.
NPL: Karnali Yaks beat Chitwan Rhinos in eliminator by 21 runs
Karnali Yaks have beaten the Chitwan Rhinos by 21 runs and qualify for Qualifier 2 of the Nepal Premier League, where they will face the loser of Qualifier 1 between Janakpur Bolts and Sudurpaschim Royal.
After being put to bat first, Karnali Yaks set a target of 176 runs for Chitwan Rhinos, thanks to a strong performance from their foreign players.
Despite the Yaks suffering an early setback, losing opener Rit Gautam in the second over, a steady 39-ball 53 by newcomer Jaykishan Kolsawala laid a solid foundation.
Sudurpaschim Royals reach NPL final defeating Janakpur
Sudurpaschim Royals have secured a place in the final of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) after defeating Janakpur Bolts by 8 wickets in the first qualifier.
Chasing a target of 140 runs, Sudurpaschim Royals comfortably reached 141/2 in 18.3 overs, clinching the win and advancing to the title clash in the inaugural season of the NPL.
Though they lost the toss and were asked to bowl first, the Royals made light work of the chase.
