NEA earns Rs 9.11 billion profit as revenue reaches Rs 41.8 billion

KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has recorded a profit of more than Rs 9.11 billion during the first three months of the current fiscal year.

From Shrawan to mid-Asoj, NEA’s total revenue, including interest and other income, reached Rs 41.80 billion, while its total expenses amounted to Rs 32.69 billion.

During this period, NEA spent Rs 32.69 billion on operational costs and maintenance.

Of this, Rs 26.77 billion came from electricity sales at various distribution centers, out of a total of Rs 28.95 billion.

The authority purchased a total of 4.10 billion units of electricity, including 875.2 million units from its own and subsidiary companies, and 3.22 billion units from other private generating companies.

NEA paid a total of Rs 21.91 billion for these purchases, according to Executive Director Kulman Ghising.

There was no electricity import from India between Shrawan and mid-Asoj. While NEA had planned to export electricity, floods in the second week of Asoj disrupted these plans, and no imports occurred during this period.

Despite this, NEA successfully exported 1.4 billion 6.1 million units of electricity to India, earning Rs 10.88 billion in revenue.

A total of Rs 16.93 billion, including Rs 9.12 billion from the Government of Nepal and foreign aid, has been spent on various electrification projects.

Of this, NEA contributed Rs 10.88 billion, with Rs 3.81 billion used for various expenses. Notably, Rs 6.5 billion of this was allocated for foreign payments.
