Infrastructure development project begins at Bharateshwor Temple



KATHMANDU: An infrastructure development project is to be implemented on the premises of Chandan Bharateswor Mahadev Temple, the historic and religious site based in the Chandragiri municipality-6.

The project will be implemented under the Nepal-India Cooperation Programme.

A tripartite agreement in this regard was signed here today among the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, the Chandragiri municipality, and the Embassy of India in Kathmandu.

Chandragiri municipality mayor Ghanashyam Giri and Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Prasanna Shrivastava jointly laid the foundation stone for the infrastructure development project that costs Rs 65 million.

The Embassy has funded Rs 43.6 million for the project which has a deadline of October 28, 2025.

On the occasion, mayor Giri said that following the completion of the project here, a project to renovate the temple will be implemented.

According to him, the promotion of religious tourism, and the achievement of socio-economic development are the top priorities of the local government.

He also acknowledged the economic support from the Embassy for enhancing infrastructure development on the site.

Chandragiri municipality administrative officer Hemraj Aryal said they hoped for constructive support, supervision, and collaboration from all the local stakeholders to complete the project within the deadline.

Chandragiri municipality deputy-mayor Basanti Shrestha and Chandragiri-6 ward chair Sanjay Sigdel highlighted the historic aspect of the temple, speaking about the need to develop it as a religious tourist site.
