KATHMANDU: Ashma Kumari KC, who was crowned Miss Nepal World 2024 recently, has made headlines by entering the political sphere, joining the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) within a month and a half of her crowning—contrary to the rules set by the Miss Nepal organizers.

RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden announced that KC would be included in the party’s Central Working Committee as one of 20 youth members under 40.

Despite her recent political involvement, KC stated that participating in the Miss Nepal competition has helped her personal growth, though she refrained from commenting on her decision to join the RPP.

KC emphasized her commitment to representing Nepal on the international stage at the Miss World pageant, aiming to follow in the footsteps of previous winners and enhance the nation’s pride.

However, she did not disclose her political aspirations when she won the Miss Nepal title.

The RPP’s selection process included interviews, leading to the appointment of 10 women and 10 men as central members, with KC being among them.

RPP Chair Lingden noted that the selection committee, led by senior leader and vice president Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan, made the appointments based on specific criteria.

The newly appointed youth members include Ashok Singh Samrat, Lokendra Kunwar, Binod Shrestha, Arun Giri, Gopi Krishna Chaulagain, Shiva Kumar Chaudhary, Rabi Kiran Hamal, Navneet Kumar Mishra, Samir Sharma, and Dr. David Thapa.

Among the women selected are Bina Lama, Bina Jaiswal, Laxmi (Nani) Thapa, Nazian Khatun Miya, Sajina Karki, Anisha Nepali, Regina Shrestha, Deepa Shrestha, Miss Nepal World 2024 Ashma Kumari KC, and Tara.

According to RPP spokesperson Mohan Kumar Shrestha, all 20 individuals, including KC, were nominated as central members after completing the interview process.
