KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli emphasized the importance of providing equal access to quality education for marginalized communities, regions, genders, and nationalities.

He highlighted the necessity of addressing existing educational inequalities at all levels and ensuring equal opportunities at provincial and local levels.

In his message on National Education Day, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to increasing the national budget for education to meet sustainable development goals and to advancing the School Education Bill, 2081 for parliamentary discussion and approval.

National Education Day marks the issuance of the Compulsory and Free Education Act, 2075, which aims to uphold the fundamental right to education as guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal. Since last year, this day has been celebrated on Ashoj 2 to honor the act’s certification.

This year’s observance carries the slogan “Knowledge, Science, Skills, Entrepreneurship, and Originality: Partnership and Systemic Competence.” The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the nationwide celebrations featuring various programs.

He noted the necessity for all three tiers of government to strengthen partnerships and collaborate effectively to achieve the goals of compulsory basic education and free secondary education.

“It is essential to use existing investments and resources efficiently to foster moral character, promote employment, and cultivate citizens through quality education,” PM Oli stated.

He stressed that inclusive and high-quality education—from school to higher education—is vital for achieving global sustainable development goals by 2030.

Furthermore, he called for transforming educational institutions into centers of excellence and using education as a means to realize the national vision of a ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali.’
