Monsoon disasters claim 182 lives, 233 injured, and cause extensive damage across Nepal



KATHMANDU: The death toll from this year’s monsoon-induced disasters has risen to 182 as of this afternoon.

The casualties, resulting from landslides and floods since June 10, include three individuals from the Kathmandu Valley, according to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Dan Bahadur Karki, Spokesperson of the Nepal Police.

The fatalities have been distributed across various provinces as follows:

Koshi Province: 27

Madhes Province: 8

Bagmati Province: 32

Gandaki Province: 55

Lumbini Province: 36

Karnali Province: 10

Sudurpaschim Province: 11

In addition, 233 people have been injured, with the distribution of injuries being:

Kathmandu Valley: 11

Koshi Province: 38

Madhes Province: 12

Bagmati Province: 23

Gandaki Province: 46

Lumbini Province: 18

Karnali Province: 57

Sudurpaschim Province: 28

The police have rescued 113 individuals from the affected areas, including 28 from the Kathmandu Valley.

However, 50 people remain missing, and search operations are ongoing.

The disasters have also resulted in the loss of 838 cattle. In terms of property damage, 321 houses, 111 cowsheds, 51 bridges, four schools, and two government office buildings have been inundated.

Additionally, 4,787 households have been displaced in the past two months.
