KATHMANDU: The special parliamentary inquiry committee investigating the misappropriation of savings funds from cooperatives has taken a statement from Bipin Acharya, the Joint General Secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

Acharya’s statement was recorded during a committee meeting held at Singha Durbar on Sunday.

Previously, Acharya served as a Creative Director at Gorkha Media Network, where GB Rai, who is currently absconding, was the Chairman.

Rabi Lamichhane, the current RSP Chairman, served as the Managing Director of the Gorkha Media Network.

The committee had also scheduled to question RSP Chairman Lamichhane on Sunday.

However, the agenda was altered due to an increased number of informants providing additional statements.

Suryadarshan Savings and Loans Cooperative in Pokhara and Supreme Cooperative in Butwal had invested in Gorkha Media Network.

The committee’s review of documents revealed Acharya’s involvement in these transactions.

A committee member indicated that funds withdrawn from the cooperatives were reportedly used by Acharya for personal purposes in addition to their association with Gorkha Media.

According to a committee member, Acharya was found to be conducting business dealings with Suryadarshan Cooperative and Supreme Cooperative during his tenure at Gorkha Media.
