NEA extends national grid power to Gosainkunda first time

KATHMANDU: For the first time, electricity from the national transmission line has reached Gosainkunda, the famous holy site in Rasuwa district of Bagmati province.

This will make it easier for the pilgrims to reach Gosainkunda.

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), has been on a mission to supply power to remote areas.

With this, it has brought relief to pilgrims besides locals after supplying electricity to Gosainkunda for the first time, it is learnt.

Electricity service has brought into operation since Friday evening at the area which is 4,380 meters above the sea level.

With the arrival of electric lights, the Gosainkunda area has become sparkling.

Kulman Ghising, the executive director of the authority, said that electricity from the national transmission line was supplied on the eve of the Janai Purnima festival in the religious and tourist destination of Gosaikunda.

Before it, the solar lights were being used there. “Now, as part of the campaign to fully illuminate the country, we are supplying electricity from the national grid to Susta, Gosainkunda, Annapurna base camp, Upper Mustang including other religious, touristic and historical areas as well as to the monasteries, mosques, and temples in various places,” NEA executive director Ghising added.

A 15-KVA distribution transformer has been installed for the power transmission up to Gosainkunda, around eight kilometres from Chandanbari.

The project of extending power supply cost around Rs 30 million.
