Attorney General Badal commits to ensuring justice for victims

KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Attorney General Ramesh Badal has pledged to fulfill his responsibilities in a manner that ensures victims experience justice.

Upon taking charge of his office today, Badal stated that he will operate within the authority granted by the Constitution and existing laws to deliver justice to victims.

“Providing justice to victims is the responsibility of this Office; we will fulfill our duties while remaining within constitutional jurisdiction. We will prosecute only the accused persons,” Attorney General Badal emphasized.

He urged Government Attorneys to proceed with cases only after thorough study, noting that they are regarded as the first judges in the judicial process.

Badal highlighted that the Office of the Attorney General serves to prosecute and provide legal advice to the government, as well as to defend it in legal matters.

He expressed his commitment to fulfilling constitutional responsibilities and mentioned that discussions would be held to establish criteria for penalties and compensation, seeking cooperation from all stakeholders to bring uniformity to prosecutions.

In a ceremony held at Sheetal Niwas, President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to Attorney General Ramesh Badal in the presence of Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha.

Badal was appointed to the position on Wednesday on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.

He previously served as Attorney General for a brief period prior to this appointment.
