KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Bishwa Prakash Sharma has called for the inclusion of workers in the informal sector under social security coverage.
During the emergency session of today’s House of Representatives meeting, Sharma emphasized the urgent need for occupational safety laws to protect workers.
He highlighted a recent incident in Surkhet, where two individuals died from suffocation while cleaning a well, underscoring the importance of such legislation.
Sharma urged for special provisions for unorganized sector workers within the social security fund framework, advocating for their inclusion based on contributions.
Similarly, Hridaya Ram Thani criticized the government’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year, citing inadequate allocations for Karnali Province.
He particularly noted the insufficient funding for road construction in Dolpa, Jajarkot, Mugu, and Humla, calling the allocations nominal.
Raghuji Panta brought attention to the issues concerning the services and facilities for Federal Parliament Secretariat staff.
He urged the government to make an immediate decision on these matters, including the recent cuts to newspaper provisions for MPs. Panta appealed to the Finance Minister and Finance Ministry to restore these services and allowances as per the rules.
Harka Maya BK raised concerns about the impact of the monsoon in eastern Nepal, which has resulted in loss of lives and property.
She demanded the government provide relief and make arrangements for rescue and relief efforts for natural disaster victims, emphasizing the need for improved preparedness.
Gyan Bahadur Shahi also expressed dissatisfaction with the minimal budget allocation for Karnali Province, while Abdul Khan drew attention to the challenges faced by the crusher and mining industry entrepreneurs.
Lastly, Amaresh Kumar Singh addressed the perceived inequality in budget allocation, seeking a response from Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on the issue.
