NC, ruling coalition reach consensus to form probe committee

The Nepali Congress (NC), the main opposition party, and major parties of the ruling coalition have reached an agreement to form a probe committee to investigate cooperatives-related fraud. A meeting involving four parties, namely NC, CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Center, and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), convened at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, arrived at a consensus to form the probe committee. During the meeting, it was decided to establish a task force to draft the terms of reference (TOR) under the coordination of Law Minister Padam Giri.

NC President Deuba urges govt to address rights of Nepalis working abroad

Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba emphasized the crucial need to address the rights of Nepalis employed overseas. Speaking at the inauguration of the 12th general convention of the Democratic Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs, a sister-organization of the party, in Kathmandu today, NC President Deuba called upon the government to take concrete measures to rescue Nepalis who have been defrauded while seeking foreign employment.

Parliament shouldn’t be taken hostage for long: Speaker Ghimire

Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Devraj Ghimire, has said the parliament, which needs to make decision based on people’s mandate, cannot be taken a hostage for long. Speaker Ghimire however said all sides’ cooperation is essential to run parliament smoothly. He said it while addressing a discussion the FNJ Associate Province Committee organized in the federal capital, marking its fourth general assembly today.

Deadlock in Parliament will be resolved by Sunday morning: PM Dahal

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has announced the parliament’s opening tomorrow morning, putting an end to the obstruction. He stated that discussions with various parties to lift the obstruction are underway and it is expected to be resolved by tomorrow morning. Addressing the book launch program organized at the CPN-Maoist Center’s central office in Parisdanda on Saturday, the Prime Minister mentioned that the upcoming budget, scheduled for Jestha 15 (May 28), will not be affected, emphasizing his full attention towards opening the parliament.

Two youths drown while swimming in Tanahun stream

Tragedy struck as two youths lost their lives while swimming in a stream at Battar Suleraha in Bandipur Rural Municipality-2, Tanahun. According to the District Police Office, Tanahun, 20-year-old individuals Binod Gurung and Hira Gurung, both residents of Bandipur Rural Municipality-6, met their demise in the unfortunate incident. Police Inspector Mohan Kumar Khadka reported that out of the six swimmers present, the two youths tragically submerged in the stream.
