Finance Minister Pun emphasizes need for global commitment to mitigate climate change risks

Finance Minister Barshaman Pun has called on the global community to recognize and address the challenges faced by developing countries, such as Nepal, which face significant risks from climate change. Speaking at the 12th ministerial meeting of the V-20 (a group of countries at risk due to the effects of climate change) in Washington, DC, Minister Pun emphasized the need for global collective commitment to mitigate the risks associated with climate change. Pun highlighted the plight of the poor and marginalized populations in Nepal who are suffering from the effects of climate change. He clarified that these populations have not contributed to the country’s high risk level.

Newly appointed Auditor General Raya sworn in

Toyam Raya, the newly appointed Auditor General, has officially taken the oath of office and secrecy today. In a ceremony held at the Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas, Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha administered the oath in the presence of President Ramchandra Paudel. The Vice-President, Prime Minister, ministers, and heads of constitutional bodies were among those in attendance at the event.

Seven new ministers sworn in Lumbini Province

Lumbini Province witnessed the swearing-in of seven newly appointed ministers on Thursday. Province Chief Amik Sherchan administered the oath to these newly appointed ministers. Chief Minister Jokh Bahadur Mahara appointed Dinesh Panti, Arjun Bahadur KC, Bhumishwor Dhakal, and Ratna Bahadur Khatri from CPN-UML, Dharma Bahadur Chaudhary from Nagarik Unmukti Party, Khadka Bahadur Basnet, an independent lawmaker, and Bagwati Adhikari of CPN (Unified Socialist) to serve as ministers in the province.

Dahal and Oli meet amid speculations of Nepal aligning with Deuba

Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), KP Sharma Oli, and Chairman of CPN-UML, held a meeting on Thursday evening at Singha Durbar. Upon returning to Kathmandu from Jhapa, UML Chair Oli convened a meeting with PM Dahal. The meeting reportedly followed speculations of CPN (Unified Socialist) joining forces with Nepali Congress to form an alternative alliance. The news of Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba reaching an agreement to forge a new coalition recently emerged.

Nepali citizen dies in Dubai flood tragedy

Tragedy struck as a Nepali national lost his life in a flash flood in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi confirmed that Mohan Pun from Bharatpur was a victim of the flash flood caused by heavy rainfall. Pun, employed at a café in the UAE, succumbed to the unfortunate incident. The UAE has experienced relentless downpours over the past two days, resulting in the closure of government offices. Pun had recently arrived in the UAE on a visit visa.

Over 1 kg of gold discovered in aircraft parked at TIA

Authorities at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) have seized a significant amount of gold discovered on an Indigo Air flight arriving from New Delhi. According to SSP Krishna Hari Sharma of the Airport Security Office, approximately 1.70 kilograms of gold were found concealed within the aircraft’s seats. The discovery was made during a routine inspection after the aircraft landed at TIA on Wednesday. Further investigations are underway regarding the origins and intended recipients of the seized gold.

Sodari takes oath as Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister

Dhirga Bahadur Sodari, the parliamentary party leader of CPN (Unified Socialist), has officially assumed the role of Chief Minister (CM) of Sudurpaschim Province. In a ceremony held on Thursday evening, Province Chief Najir Miya administered the oath of office and secrecy to CM Sodari. Sodari’s appointment comes following his claim to the position, supported by CPN (Maoist Center), CPN-UML, CPN (Unified Socialist), Nagarik Unmukti Party, and an independent lawmaker.
