KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has granted permission for Krishna Bahadur Mahara, arrested on Monday from Bhairahawa, to remain in the hospital.

Mahara faces charges related to his alleged involvement in a gold smuggling case.

Previously, the Gold Smuggling Probe Commission recommended that the government file a case against him for his suspected role in the smuggling.

Following his arrest, the Kathmandu District Court authorized Mahara’s custody for four days to facilitate further investigation.

However, Mahara appealed, citing his ongoing medical treatment for tuberculosis, uric acid, and prostate conditions.

Due to his health concerns, the court directed the Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) to allow Mahara to stay in the hospital.
