CIAA files corruption case against high-ranking officials, including three former Secretaries and DG of Immigration Department

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has lodged cases against three former secretaries and 17 other individuals in connection with corruption allegations related to the Melamchi Water Supply Project. Former secretaries Bhim Upadhyaya, Sanjay Sharma, and Gajendra Thakur face corruption charges as per the cases filed by the CIAA. Additionally, the CIAA has initiated corruption proceedings against Rudra Singh Tamang, the Chief Executive Officer of the Department of Immigration.

Rautahat DAO extends curfew in Ishanath Municipality following communal clashes

The local administration in the Ishanath Municipality of Rautahat has expanded the scope of the curfew imposed since yesterday amid tensions over the disposal of the Saraswati idol. After a clash erupted between two communities over the controversy surrounding the disposal of the idol of goddess Saraswati after the Saraswati Puja, the District Administration Office (DAO) in Rautahat extended the curfew to Wards 6 and 7 of Ishnath Municipality yesterday evening.

PM Dahal indicates possible lift of TikTok ban upon company compliance

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has indicated that the ban on TikTok could be lifted if the company adheres to its commitments. In response to a query from lawmaker Ganesh Parajuli during the parliament meeting, Prime Minister Dahal stated that the government has been engaged in discussions with TikTok representatives regarding the ban’s potential reversal. The government had previously imposed a ban on TikTok usage starting from 27th Kartik, 2080 BS.

Madhes CM Yadav garners Vote of Confidence again

Chief Minister of Madhes Province, Saroj Kumar Yadav, has secured a vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly on Sunday. With this, Chief Minister Yadav has obtained the vote of confidence for the third time. Out of the 104 members present in the Provincial Assembly meeting, 69 lawmakers expressed their confidence in Chief Minister Yadav, while 35 voted against him.

UML demands resignation of three federal ministers

The main opposition party in the parliament, CPN-UML, has demanded the resignation of three ministers from the present cabinet. During a parliamentary session held on Sunday, UML Whip Mahesh Bartaula called for the resignation of Minister for Physical Infrastructure, and Transport Prakash Jwala, Minister for Health and Population Mohan Basnet and Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati.

NEPSE witnesses 27.31-point decline on Sunday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) faced a downward trend on the first trading day of the week, with all indicators experiencing a decline. The NEPSE index saw a decrease of 27.21 points (1.31%) compared to the previous trading day. Following this downturn, NEPSE now stands at 2034 points. In addition to NEPSE, the sensitive index dropped by 0.91%, and the float index declined by 1.32%.

Balkumari incident: PM Dahal assures action

Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” on Sunday addressed concerns surrounding the incident in Balkumari, Lalitpur, on December 29, 2023, where two youths lost their lives. During a parliamentary session on Sunday, Prime Minister Dahal assured that appropriate action would be taken upon reviewing the report from the commission of inquiry into the incident.

Biplav appointed coordinator of Socialist Front

The Samajwadi Morcha (Socialist Front), a coalition of five left-leaning political parties, has named Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ as its coordinator. The decision was made during a meeting of the Front held earlier this morning. Leaders representing the Maoist Centre, Janata Samajwadi Party, Unified Socialist, and the Nepal Communist Party led by Netra Bikram Chand Biplav were in attendance.
