Rautahat DAO extends curfew in Ishanath Municipality following communal clashes

RAUTAHAT: The local administration in the Ishanath Municipality of Rautahat has expanded the scope of the curfew imposed since yesterday amid tensions over the disposal of the Saraswati idol.

After a clash erupted between two communities over the controversy surrounding the disposal of the idol of goddess Saraswati after the Saraswati Puja, the District Administration Office (DAO) in Rautahat extended the curfew to Wards 6 and 7 of Ishnath Municipality yesterday evening.

In response to the escalation of communal tensions beyond these wards, DAO extended the curfew order for Wards 2, 3, 4, and 5 as well today.

Hiralal Regmi, the Chief District Officer (CDO), stated, “Security officers numbering more than 1,500 are actively patrolling the affected areas. The curfew has been extended to prevent further untoward incidents and protect public property.”

He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and preventing damage to public and private property.

CDO Regmi clarified that the curfew order would remain in effect in the concerned areas until further notice.

Saturday’s clash between the two communities resulted in injuries to more than six locals.
