UML demands resignation of three federal ministers

KATHMANDU: The main opposition party in the parliament, CPN-UML, has demanded the resignation of three ministers from the present cabinet.

During a parliamentary session held on Sunday, UML Whip Mahesh Bartaula called for the resignation of Minister for Physical Infrastructure, and Transport Prakash Jwala, Minister for Health and Population Mohan Basnet and Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati.

Bartaula pointed out that Minister Jwala has been implicated in a case involving the death of two youths in Lalitpur on December 29, and hence, he should resign.

He also emphasized that the resignation of Health Minister Basnet was demanded due to allegations of corruption in his ministry.

“It is indecent to let the ministers declared guilty by the probe committee and the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) continue their post,” he said, adding, “It is more than 30 hours now and the ministers are still in their office whereas the recruits and the junior officials allegedly involved in the incident have been booked by law.”

Bartaula criticized the Prime Minister for not taking serious action against ministers facing serious allegations.

“We learned about the incident of a minister going to the CIAA for statement. We are not prepared to listen to the Prime Minister’s sugar-coated speech by keeping a person concerned about corruption in the minister’s position,” Bartaula said.

He also held Minister Kirati responsible for misappropriation and embezzlement of the resourses of Lumbini Development Fund.

The UML whip sought the resignation of Health Minister Basnet on corruption allegations and Minister Jwala for his alleged role in provoking the Balkumari incident.
