Kaski District Court extends Rabi Lamichhane’s custody for 4 more days

KATHMANDU: The Kaski District Court has granted an additional four-day remand for Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane and Chhabilal Joshi, following the expiration of their previous five-day extension for investigation in the cooperative fraud case.

Rajan Khanal of Kaski District Court confirmed that the court approved the extension, allowing authorities more time to prepare a charge sheet against Lamichhane, Joshi and 49 others. The charge sheet is expected to be filed in the Kaski District Court by Friday.

The police submitted their report to the Public Prosecutor’s Office on Monday, with the District Police Office, Kaski, recommending charges against Lamichhane on three counts.

Lamichhane, arrested on October 18 in Kathmandu, is also facing a money laundering case, and under legal provisions, investigations can extend up to 90 days.

Joshi, arrested in connection with the cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering cases, will reach 90 days in custody on Friday. Lamichhane’s detention has been aligned with Joshi’s, as both face similar charges.

The Government Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the police report and is preparing to file a prosecution in court.

Lamichhane, who has been remanded in custody seven times, is now on his eighth remand, while the case is set to be presented in court within 90 days of Joshi’s arrest.
