Balen Shah not to endorse any candidate in Kathmandu’s by-election

KATHMANDU: Balen Shah, the Mayor of Kathmandu, will not be supporting any candidate in the upcoming local by-elections set for December 1, is secretariat has said.

As the by-elections for the mayor and two wards in Kirtipur, as well as Ward 16 of Kathmandu Metropolis, approach, many speculated that Balen might field a candidate.

However, the mayor’s office has confirmed that there will be no candidates endorsed by Mayor Shah, and he will not support any individual in the race.

The Mayor will not be participating in this election in any capacity, according to Balen’s secretariat.

“Balen Shah is not supporting any candidate, and we request that his name not be associated with any campaign,” his secretariat stated on Sunday.

Many had anticipated that Balen Shah, who won the 2079 BS Kathmandu mayoral election as an independent candidate by a significant margin, might use his influence to back a candidate in this by-election.
