Man killed in wild elephant attack in Jhapa



JHAPA: A man has died in Jhapa following an attack by a wild elephant.

Forty-five-year-old Min Bahadur Bhattarai was killed when the elephant, which had strayed from the forest, attacked him in Deepjyoti village-3 of Damak Municipality, around 2 a.m. last night.

According to DSP Krishna Kumar Chand of the District Police Office Jhapa, Bhattarai was attacked while the elephant was attempting to demolish the kitchen of a local resident, Subin Bhattarai.

The elephant chased Bhattarai for about a hundred meters before he was killed on the spot.

Wild elephants have been causing significant distress to residents in various areas of Jhapa.
