Provincial structure cannot be removed: Deuba

KATHMANDU: Sher Bahadur Deuba, president of the Nepali Congress, has made it clear that the provincial structure cannot be removed.

Speaking at a discussion on ‘A Decade of Constitution Implementation and Challenges’ organized by the party’s legal department in Sanepa on Tuesday, Deuba stated that the provincial structure is established and cannot be undone.

“Concerns were raised regarding provincial governments. The provincial structure has been established. It cannot be removed. There is no situation in which it can be removed,” Deuba said. “What we need to do now is think about how to make it more accountable and consider all aspects, which may require making improvements accordingly.”

Deuba, who is also a former Prime Minister, suggested that constitutional amendments could be made to strengthen democracy further.
