30 injured, five seriously, in police vehicle mishap

KATHMANDU: A police vehicle accident in Biratnagar has left 30 people injured, with five in serious condition.

The injured include police officers Ayush Limbu, Bibek Rai, Hem Bahadur Dhaka Magar, Yogendra Magar, Sanjay Ojha, Saugat Thapa, Suman Bhujel, and Pushparaj Shrestha.

Details of other injured people are yet to be confirmed, according to police sources.

The accident occurred on Wednesday evening when a police team, led by an inspector, was en route from Morang District Police Office to the Rani Area Police Office following a request for additional assistance.

Of the 30 injured, 21 are receiving treatment at Koshi Hospital, five at Neuro Hospital, two at Birat Teaching Hospital, and one at Nobel Hospital.

The police team from the Provincial Police Training Center was deployed for additional security during the Muslim community’s ‘Muharram’ festival.

The accident reportedly happened at the turning of Bhattimod while trying to avoid students coming from school.
