KATHMANDU: The recovery efforts at Simaltal have yielded grim results, with 17 bodies retrieved from the devastating bus plunge incident that occurred on July 12.

Two buses were swept away by a landslide into the Trishuli River in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29, Chitwan district.

Out of the 65 passengers reported missing, three survived while 62 remained unaccounted for until the latest developments.

According to the Armed Police Force (APF), 17 bodies have been recovered so far, offering some closure to the families affected by this tragedy.

Deputy Spokesperson of the APF, Shailendra Thapa, confirmed that nine of the recovered bodies have been identified.

Among them are Indian nationals Rishipal Shah, Jaya Prakash Thakur, and Sazad Ansari.

Local victims identified include Bikas Pariyar and Sudip BK of Chitwan, Ramit Kushar Majhi of Sarlahi, Firoz Rahupamiya and Kishore Kumar Chaudhary of Rautahat, and Paramananda Pandit of Bara.

Efforts to identify the remaining eight bodies continue, with six males and two females yet to be conclusively identified, Deputy Spokesperson Thapa added.

The search operation remains ongoing for the missing passengers and the two submerged buses, underscoring the urgency of the rescue efforts in this tragic incident.
