Federal Parliament employees’ demands to be discussed with Ministry of Finance

KATHMANDU: A meeting between agitating Federal Parliament employees and the Parliament Secretariat concluded at Singha Durbar, Kathmandu, on Monday.

According to sources, the meeting was attended by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, Chairman of the National Assembly, Narayan Prasad Dahal, chief whips of various political parties, and senior officials of the Secretariat.

It was decided in the meeting to initiate discussions with Finance Minister Barshaman Pun to address their grievances.

Since June 12, the Federal Parliament Secretariat Employees Union has been demanding amendments to the Employee Administration Regulations of 2065 BS to update Schedule 12, provision of additional work incentive allowances, establishment of an Employee Welfare Fund, and eleven other demands. They have expressed their dissent by tying black ribbons during parliamentary meetings.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Indira Rana, Deputy Chairperson of the National Assembly, Bimala Ghimire, Secretary-General of the Parliament Secretariat, Padma Prasad Pandey, and other Secretariat officials participated in the discussion.

Currently, there are 390 employees actively working in the Parliament Secretariat.
