NSP Dispute: Dr. Bhattarai faction rejects Yadav faction’s party unity with Maoist Center

KATHMANDU: The Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting of the Nepal Samajbadi Party (NSP), convened by Dr. Baburam Bhattarai’s faction, has decided to nullify the decision of Mahendra Ray Yadav’s faction to unite the party with the CPN-Maoist Center.

According to NSP sources, the majority of the party members in the CEC meeting chaired by Dr. Bhattarai passed a resolution to revoke the unity with the Maoist Center.

In contrast, on Saturday, another faction led by Chairman Yadav had sent a letter announcing unity with the Maoist Center.

Key leaders from both parties, including Maoist Center’s General Secretary Dev Prasad Gurung, Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma, and NSP Co-Chair Ganganaayan Shrestha, along with General Secretary Ramesh Prasad Yadav, had signed the document declaring party unity.

The NSP has two members, including Yadav, in the House of Representatives, and one each in the Bagmati and Gandaki province assemblies.

During the elections, NSP candidates had contested under the Maoist Center’s election symbol.

Yadav’s faction has also called for a separate informal meeting to discuss future strategies.
