JHAPA: A heartbreaking incident occurred in Jhapa district Friday night, resulting in the death of a daughter and critical injuries to her mother after the latter attempted self-immolation.

Dundiraj Giri, Police Inspector at the District Police Office, Jhapa, reported that Maya Ramtel, 28, of Gopaldandi in Buddha Shanti rural municipality-2, attempted to set herself and her daughter on fire using petrol.

Maya had tied her daughter to herself with a shawl during the attempt, leading to critical injuries for both.

The mother and daughter were immediately rushed to B and C Hospital, where the daughter tragically succumbed to her injuries this morning. Inspector Giri revealed that Maya sustained severe burns on most parts of her body and remains in critical condition.

Further investigation revealed a suicide note near the incident site, where Maya cited her husband’s extramarital affair as the reason for her drastic action.

Maya’s husband, Rajan BK, has been arrested by the police, who have initiated an investigation into the case. The incident occurred while Maya’s husband was away from home, according to police reports.
