National films not getting priority is worrying: Cine artist Neer Shah

KATHMANDU: Cine artist and director Neer Shah has expressed worry over the national films not getting prioritized.

During a press meet organized on Wednesday to impart information on upcoming ‘Nepal International Film Festival’, director Shah viewed if the films produced in the country are ignored it would cast down film producers. So, atmosphere must be created for easy screening of Nepali films.

“There are no film halls to show our films, and it seems halls are for foreign films. Then how can our industry thrive,” he wondered, adding that even the banks and financial institutions are not ready to invest in film making.

He further viewed at a time when Nepal has arrived at this stage since making of film, Satya Harish Chandra, we should have developed our capacity for financial management.

“The most worrying is the fact that film is limited only as an art work not an industry,” Shah rued.

According to him, there are no cinema halls in 33 districts of the country. Even the perspective toward films is narrow, he observed.

On the occasion, Chair of the Film Development Board, Bhuwan KC, admitted that he could not work up to the mark despite a plan. The introduction of Film Policy also did not help intensify activities.

“I’ve understood well the problems at Board. We’re now trying to bring in foreign investment to make Nepali films competitive,” he added.
