KATHMANDU: The Department of Postal Service has introduced two new postage stamps to mark the 150th World Post Day and the 100th anniversary of INTERPOL.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, and Ministry Secretary, Radhika Aryal, officially launched the stamps by placing the first cancellation marks at the Ministry today.
Each stamp is worth Rs 10, and one million copies of each design have been printed.
These are the first stamps issued in the 2024 series. So far, Nepal has issued 1,452 different types of stamps.
World Post Day marks the founding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) on October 9, 1874. INTERPOL, the global police organization, was established on September 7, 1923.
During the launch, Minister Gurung said the postal service is important but has suffered due to neglect. He promised to modernize and improve the service.
Secretary Aryal also highlighted the historical and cultural value of the postal service and mentioned plans to establish a Security Printing Centre to print stamps and other important documents within Nepal.
Director General Manamaya Pangeni Bhattarai expressed her commitment to modernizing postal services.
