TANAHUN: Forty-five percent of the construction work on the arch-design bridge over the Madi River, part of the ongoing Muglin–Pokhara Road Project, has been completed.

The bridge connects wards 4 and 5 of Byas Municipality, according to the Eastern Section of the project.

Engineer Bishnu Prasad Pandey of the Muglin Pokhara Road Project (Eastern Section)  stated that the bridge will feature six spans and span a total length of 315 meters.

The construction company signed the contract on August 11, 2022, agreeing to complete the bridge within three years at a cost of 1.21 billion rupees.

This four-lane bridge, the longest arch-design bridge on the Prithvi Highway, is being constructed approximately 50 meters from the existing two-lane, 370-meter-long bridge.

Dinesh Shrestha, a representative of the construction company, expressed optimism that the project could be completed ahead of schedule if current progress is maintained. Work is being carried out in two shifts, day and night.

Under the Eastern Section of the Muglin–Pokhara Road Project, 13 bridges between Abukhaireni and Jamune have already been completed.

Major bridges still under construction include those over the Madi River and Buldi Khola in Dumre, as well as bridges over Nala in Bandipur and Khani Khola in Abukhaireni.

Sixty-eight percent of the roadwork in the Eastern Section has also been completed. The work began on April 15, 2021, after the contract was awarded on January 30, 2021, to China Communication Construction.

The road, originally planned in 1969, is being upgraded to four lanes with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to accommodate increasing traffic.

The Eastern Section contract is valued at 6.21 billion rupees, while the Western Section contract is worth 7.40 billion rupees.
