Nepali and Chinese parliamentary delegations meet in Geneva
The Nepali and Chinese parliamentary delegations which are in Geneva, Switzerland in connection with attending the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held a meeting on Tuesday.
The Nepali parliamentary delegation is led by National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal and the Chinese delegation is headed by Thyan Suizhan, Vice-Chairman of the Education, Science, Culture and Health Committee of the Chinese People’s Congress.
During the meeting, the two delegations discussed Nepal-China bilateral relations, parliamentary practices, experience sharing and collaboration in international forums, among other topics, Chairman Dahal’s Secretariat stated.
Today marks the last day for Dashain tika
Today, Ashwin Shuklapaksha Chaturdashi and Purnima coincide, marking the last day to put ‘tika’ and ‘jamara’ for this year’s Bada Dashain, serving as a blessing from Navadurga.
Chaturdashi occurs during sunrise, while Purnima begins at midnight, which means Kojagrat Purnima is celebrated today.
The Purnima fast, traditionally observed in the evening when the Purnima date arrives, is set for Thursday, October 17.
Dengue: Over 19,000 infected nationwide as cases surge
Dengue infection is spreading rapidly across the country, with the latest statistics from the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division reporting a total of 19,599 confirmed cases.
Tragically, nine individuals have lost their lives due to the virus so far.
Dengue has been reported in 76 districts, with the highest number of cases occurring in Kathmandu, where 3,103 people have been infected.
Kojagrat Poornima being observed today
Hindus across the country are observing the Kojagrat Poornima (full moon day) today as part of the final day of the 15-day Bada Dashain festival by worshipping and paying homage to Mahalaxmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
The Bada Dashain festival formally ends today with the marking of the Kojagrat Poornima–devotees offering worships to Mahalaxmi at their homes in the evening, and keeping vigil the whole night.
There is a belief that the goddess Mahalaxmi takes a trip around the world on the night of Kojagrat Poornima ‘to check as to who is observing the vigil on this particular night’.
NA Chair holds bilateral meetings with parliamentary delegation leaders of various nations
Chairperson of the National Assembly (NA) Narayan Prasad Dahal held bilateral meetings with the President of the National Council of Switzerland, and the Leaders of parliamentary delegations from India, China, Thailand, and the Philippines on the sidelines of the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), in Geneva, Switzerland.
Dahal is currently in Geneva, leading the Nepali delegation to the IPU 149th Assembly. Chairperson Dahal held a bilateral meeting with Eric Nussbaumer, President of the National Council of Swiss Confederation.
Post-disaster reconstruction work will proceed soon: Prime Minister
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed deep concern over the damage caused by recent floods, landslides, and inundation, stressing the government’s commitment to swiftly begin reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts through an integrated safe settlement plan.
While receiving a memorandum today from an all-party delegation from Khotang at his official residence in Baluwatar, the Prime Minister assured that Thursday’s meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and the Cabinet will decide on immediate relief measures, including temporary housing and bridge construction.
He mentioned that due to floods and landslides, various roads connecting Kathmandu were blocked and the roads were put into operation temporarily faster than expected.
Dadeldhura bus accident: Death toll reaches five, 12 critically injured referred to Dhangadhi
Death toll in the Dadeldhura bus accident has reached five.
The number of those killed in the accident reached five after body of Gobani Mahara, 60, of Purchaudi municipality-10 was found in the incident site at 11:00 am today.
According to Information Officer at the District Police Office, Dadeldhura, Upendra Bam, the body of the woman was found this morning in course of search and rescue works.
Lifeless bodies of Russian climbers retrieved from Dhaulagiri Peak sent to Kathmandu for post-mortem
Five dead bodies of the Russian climbers which were retrieved from the Dhaulagiri Peak here earlier today have been transported to Kathmandu by air.
District Police Office Myagdi’s Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bharat Shrestha, said the lifeless bodies were collected from an altitude of 7,100 metres of the world’s seventh-highest peak (8,167 metres).
A team of Sherpas led by Mingma Sherpa, the proprietor of Seven Summit Treks, Kathmandu picked up the bodies with the help of a high-altitude helicopter and brought them down to the Italian Base Camp of the peak before sending them to the TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj for post-mortem.
After criticism, UML declares: Min Bahadur is a party worker
The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has expressed serious concern over the recent criticism regarding the land received for its central office building.
Following widespread criticism, the UML issued a statement on Wednesday, noting that the remarks concerning the acquisition of land and the permanent solution for constructing its central office building are regrettable.
In a statement issued by the Chief of the UML Publicity Department, Rajendra Gautam, the party condemned the accusations.
