Dharan Mayor Sampang delegating authority to ward chair sparks debates

DHARAN: Harkaraj Rai Sampang, the Mayor of the Dharan sub-metropolis, departed for the UK, appointing Lokendra Kumar Fagu, the chairman of Ward No. 11, as Acting Mayor during his absence.

This decision was made effective on Monday, despite the presence of Deputy Mayor Aindra Bikram Begha, who represents the Maoist Center.

The relationship between Mayor Sampang and Deputy Mayor Begha has reportedly deteriorated, prompting Sampang to delegate authority to the ward chairman.

Sampang emphasized that this practice of appointing acting ward chairs has been common among previous mayors and should not be interpreted negatively.

In response, Deputy Mayor Begha argued that former mayors adhered strictly to the Local Government Operation Act and did not engage in such actions.

He held a press conference on Tuesday evening, announcing his intention to seek legal remedies against Mayor Sampang regarding this matter.
