KATHMANDU: Dengue infection is spreading rapidly across the country, with the latest statistics from the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division reporting a total of 19,599 confirmed cases.

Tragically, nine individuals have lost their lives due to the virus so far.

Dengue has been reported in 76 districts, with the highest number of cases occurring in Kathmandu, where 3,103 people have been infected.

Other affected areas include Kaski with 2,847 cases, Tanahun with 2,107, Parbat with 1,562, Chitwan with 971, Lalitpur with 827, Gorkha with 588, Baglung with 610, Bhaktapur with 355, and Syangja with 335 cases.

Dr. Sher Bahadur Pun, the Research Unit Coordinator at Shukraraj Tropical and Communicable Disease Hospital Teku and an infectious disease specialist, noted that the risk of dengue is likely to increase with the onset of the post-monsoon season.

He stated, “The number of dengue patients visiting the hospital has risen after Dashain, indicating that the infection is spreading within the community.”

Dengue is an insect-borne disease transmitted by the bite of the female Aedes aegypti mosquito.

To protect against mosquito bites, it is recommended to wear clothing that covers the entire body, fill in potholes, promptly repair water or sewage leaks, keep empty containers covered, regularly clean water tanks, and use a mosquito net while sleeping.

Avoiding mosquito bites is crucial for preventing dengue infection.
