Nepal will maintain its policy of rejecting interference in UN
Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to its established policy of rejecting any interference in the United Nations (UN).
Addressing the House of Representatives prior to his participation in the United Nations General Assembly, PM Oli emphasized that his focus would be on advancing the national interest.
“Nepal is a sovereign, free, and independent nation,” he stated.
HoR and National Assembly prorogued
The current session of both houses of the Federal Parliament has been prorogued. It has been announced that the sessions of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly will conclude on Monday at midnight.
During today’s meeting of the fourth session of the House of Representatives, Speaker Devraj Ghimire stated that the session would end at 12 p.m.
The government had recommended to President Ram Chandra Paudel on Sunday that the session be prorogued.
Prakashman Singh Raut recommended as Chief Justice
The Constitutional Council has recommended Prakashman Singh Raut, the most senior judge of the Supreme Court, for the position of Chief Justice.
The Council’s meeting, held in Baluwatar on Monday and chaired by Prime Minister KP Oli, unanimously endorsed Raut for the Chief Justice appointment.
The meeting was attended by Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire, Leader of the Opposition Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Speaker of the National Assembly Narayan Dahal, and Deputy Speaker Indira Rana, all members of the Council.
“Cooperative sector plagued by multitude of fakes”
Surya Thapa, Chairman of the Parliamentary Investigation Special Committee on the misappropriation of cooperative society savings, has revealed that cooperative fraud extends to numerous aspects of the sector.
According to Thapa, issues of deception permeate everything from marriages and shareholding to debtors and share members.
During his report presentation at the House of Representatives, Thapa emphasized that resolving these problems will require a collaborative effort from all parties involved.
Action recommended against Rabi Lamichhane, Chabilal Joshi, Kumar Ramtel, and GB Rai
The Parliamentary Inquiry Special Committee has recommended action against Kumar Ramtel, GB Rai, Rabi Lamichhane, and former DIG Chabilal Joshi.
They have been accused of embezzling Rs 85 crore from various cooperatives while they were associated with Gorkha Media Network.
Currently, Ramtel is in jail, and GB Rai is absconding.
Rabi Lamichhane, who is also the Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), and former DIG Joshi, although not yet under investigation, are also included in the recommendation for prosecution.
225 people die in monsoon-induced disasters over three months
Human casualties from natural disasters have risen over the past 90 days of the monsoon this year compared to the same period last year.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), 225 people died in monsoon-induced disasters from June 10 to September 7.
During this period, 49 individuals went missing and 284 were injured. Despite the increase in casualties, the total number of affected people has decreased compared to the previous year.
Gold prices hit record highs today
Gold prices surged to new record highs, continuing an upward trend for the past three days.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Traders, the price of gold increased by Rs 500 today, reaching Rs 157,300 per tola.
On Sunday, gold was priced at Rs 156,800 per tola, making today’s price the highest ever recorded.
Silver prices also increased today. The price for silver has been set at 1,915 rupees per tola, up from Rs 1,900 yesterday.
Parliamentary Hearing Committee to decide on proposed 17 ambassadors on Sept. 18
A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee has been scheduled for September 18 to make a decision on the proposed ambassadors.
According to committee member Ishwari Ghartimagar, the meeting will take place at Singha Durbar at 11 o’clock on Wednesday.
Originally, the committee was set to make a final decision on Sunday after hearing the proposed 17 ambassadors.
Technical glitch causes delay for Buddha Air flight at TIA
Buddha Air experienced a technical issue with one of its airplanes, which was scheduled to fly from Kathmandu to Bharatpur in Chitwan.
Passengers were disembarked after the aircraft, identified as a 9N-AIT flight, was stopped on the taxiway ‘Eco’ due to the detected problem.
The technical issue led to delays, impacting other flights at the airport.
Lumbini Province government appoints office-bearers to Lumbini Planning Commission
The Lumbini Province Government has appointed office-bearers to the vacant posts in the Lumbini Province Planning Commission.
A meeting of the Lumbini provincial government, Council of Ministers chaired by Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya today decided to appoint Dr Dilli Raj Aryal, a resident of Malika rural municipality-8, Gulmi, to the post of Vice Chairman of the Province Planning Commission.
