KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli is set to address the House of Representatives today following the Maoist Center’s positive approval for the meeting, scheduled for 1 pm.

Sunday’s meeting was adjourned due to disruption from Maoist Center lawmakers.

The Maoist Center obstructed the parliamentary meeting after CPN-UML MP Yogesh Bhattarai referred to the Maoist armed struggle as ‘violence,’ prompting protests from Maoist lawmakers.

Consequently, the session could not proceed.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire held discussions with opposition Maoist Center leaders, including Hitraj Pandey, about facilitating a smooth parliamentary session.

Speaker Ghimire requested that the Parliament session continue without being overshadowed by the contentious use of the term ‘violence.’

Maoist Center leaders proposed two resolutions: either Yogesh Bhattarai should issue a self-criticism acknowledging his error, or the Speaker should remove the term ‘violence’ from the record.

Speaker Ghimire stated he would make decisions based on parliamentary procedures and past practices.

A Maoist Center leader involved in the discussions noted that the Speaker seemed receptive to their proposal.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Prime Minister KP Oli is preparing to address the Parliament meeting following the Maoist Center’s agreement to proceed.

Following today’s session, the Parliament session will end.

On Sunday evening, the Council of Ministers recommended to the President that the annual session be ended.

The session will officially conclude once the President’s Office issues the formal notification.

The Parliament’s agenda for today includes the Speaker reading out a letter from the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers regarding increased workload.

Additionally, Surya Thapa, Chairman of the Parliamentary Special Committee on Misuse of Cooperative Savings, will present an investigation report.
