Gatthaghar Accident: Man arrested for falsely claiming victim as his sister



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a man who falsely claimed that the victim of the Gatthaghar accident was his sister.

The accident occurred on Thursday when a truck (Na 6 Kha 2173) struck a scooter (Ba 49 Pa 8944), dragging it for approximately 100 meters and severely mutilating the rider.

The arrested individual, Shambu Nepali, 30, from Melung Rural Municipality-4 in Dolakha, was taken into custody last night.

Police are preparing to file charges against him. He is currently being held in Thimi.

The motive behind Nepali’s false claim remains unclear.

According to the police, he has repeatedly made similar false claims and spread rumors in the past.

Initial reports mistakenly identified the victim as a female, but it was later confirmed that the deceased was a 65-year-old male named Uttam Koirala from Okhaldhunga, identified through his driving license.

The victim’s relatives have since confirmed his identity.
