Seven dead in monsoon-induced disasters in past 24 hours: Nepal Police

KATHMANDU: Altogether seven people lost their lives in monsoon-induced disasters across the country in the past 24 hours, according to the Nepal Police.

With this, the number of people who died in landslide, floods, inundation since monsoon started in Nepal this year has reached 120, said police.

Monsoon arrived in the country on June 10.

Similarly, 135 people have been injured in various disasters during this period, informed Spokesperson of Nepal Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki.

Province-wise, two people died in Kathmandu Valley, 22 in Koshi Province, five in Madhesh Province, 15 in Bagmati Province, 38 in Gandaki Province, 23 in Lumbini Province, seven in Karnali Province and eight in Sudurpaschim Province, it was shared.

Among the injured ones, eight were from Kathmandu Valley, 34 were from Koshi Province, nine from Madhesh Province, seven in Bagmati Province, 28 from Gandaki Province, nine from Lumbini Province, 29 from Karnali Province and 11 from Sudurpaschim Province, Spokesperson Karki added.

Furthermore, 581 livestock died in the disaster since the monsoon while disasters have incurred damages to many infrastructures, from houses to bridges, schools, public offices and cattle shed among others.

Altogether 3,652 families have been displaced due to disasters during this period.

Police have been conducting search, rescue and relocation operation while clearing off the obstructions on the road, police said.
