Education Minister Bhattarai prioritizes new Education Act



KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Bidya Bhattarai, has stated that her top priority is to implement a new education act.

Upon assuming office at Singha Durbar, Minister Bhattarai announced that the bill, currently under discussion in the parliament, would be advanced soon.

Her first decision focused on enforcing a nutrition development program in schools based on local needs.

Additionally, Minister Bhattarai decided to form a committee, coordinated by a joint secretary, to ensure the effective enforcement of the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

She acknowledged the lack of quality education in community schools, emphasizing her responsibility to restore their appeal.

Furthermore, she stressed the importance of adhering to the educational calendar in universities and addressing the issue of retaining students within the country.

“It’s time for universities to focus on keeping their graduates in the country, and I will work devotedly towards this goal,” she added.

Minister Bhattarai, a representative of the CPN UML, began her political career during the students’ movement of 2046 BS and later served as the chief of the women’s department of ANNFSU in 2050 BS.

She was elected as a member of the House of Representatives in the by-election held after her husband, Rabindra Adhikari, died in a helicopter crash in 2075 BS.

Bhattarai was re-elected as an HoR member from Kaski in the 2079 BS general election. Prior to her political career, she was a permanent teacher at Ratna Rajya Campus.
