Women’s cricket team undergoing intense training for Asia Cup

KATHMANDU: The Nepali National Women’s Cricket Team is deep in preparation for the upcoming ACC Women’s Asia Cup Cricket Tournament.

According to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), the team has been training for the tournament scheduled from 19 to 28 July.

Nepal secured its spot in the Asia Cup following their performance in the ACC Women’s Premier Cup held in Malaysia last February.

Eight teams will compete in the tournament, with Nepal placed in Group ‘A’, alongside UAE, India, and Pakistan.

Group ‘B’ comprises Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Thailand. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals, with the final scheduled for July 28.

Indu Barma has been appointed captain of the Nepali team for the Asia Cup, leading a squad that includes seasoned players such as former captain Rubina Chhetri, Sita Ranamagar, Bindu Rawal, Kabita Kunwar, Puja Mahato, Kabita Joshi, Samjhana Khadka, Kajol Shrestha, Sabnam Rai, Rajmati Airi, Mamata Chaudhary, Kritika Marasini, Roma Thapa, and Dolly Bhatta.

Meanwhile, in recent practice matches held in Sri Lanka, Nepal faced setbacks with two losses.

In the first match, Nepal was defeated by 33 runs against Sri Lanka, who posted 118 runs for 8 wickets.

In the second practice match, Nepal scored 106 runs for 7 wickets batting first. However, Sri Lanka chased down the target of 107 runs with one ball to spare, winning by 4 wickets.
