KATHMANDU: Lawmakers have called for a thorough investigation into the incident where Hari Bhusan Kushwaha, the Campus Chief of Ramraja Mohan Bikram Sah Multiple Campus in Kalaiya of Bara district, was shot dead.

During today’s House of Representatives meeting, CPN (UML) lawmaker Achyut Prasad Mainali strongly condemned the incident, describing Kushwaha as an academic and an honest person.

Mainali highlighted the escalating frequency of such murders, citing two recent incidents in Bara district: the killing of Rupesh Sarraf, Principal of Bal Ekata Boarding School, at Kalaiya Chowk last September, and the murder of an Indian national in Pacharauta municipality in August last year.

He urged the government to prioritize citizen security.

“The incidents of killing are on the rise. Residents near the border areas live in fear due to firearms trafficking across the open border with India. A decade ago, Madhesh province saw a wave of politically motivated murders, displacing many citizens. Now, another spate of killings has begun in Madhesh, just when people were beginning to feel a sense of relief,” Mainali stated, demanding immediate control of these incidents and justice for the perpetrators.

Additionally, Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker Ashok Kumar Chaudhary expressed dismay over the killing of Campus Chief Kushwaha.

“It is tragic that educators are being targeted in broad daylight. Four individuals have been murdered in Madhesh province in the past week alone. I urge the government to thoroughly investigate these brutal crimes and ensure the culprits face justice,” Chaudhary emphasized.

The lawmakers’ urgent plea underscores the need for swift action to address escalating violence and ensure the safety of all citizens.
