Speaker holds meeting with key leaders, NC demands to address parliament after Home Minister Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Key political leaders and Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire are currently holding a meeting to reach an agreement on forming a parliamentary committee to investigate the cooperative fraud case involving Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

The Nepali Congress (NC), the main opposition party, has been demanding the formation of this committee.

Reportedly, the NC has agreed to allow Home Minister Lamichhane to address the queries raised against him in parliament, on the condition that they are allowed to address the meeting immediately afterward.

The NC remains firm in its demand for a probe committee against Home Minister Lamichhane.

However, the ruling and opposition parties have yet to reach an agreement to permit the NC to address parliament after Lamichhane.

Due to the ongoing deadlock, the parliamentary meeting initially scheduled for 11 am today was rescheduled for 4 pm.

As of now, the meeting has yet to commence.
